VENICE COLLECTS WASTE EVEN ELECTRICALLY

WITH ARCHIMEDE BATTERIES YOU TAKE A STEP TOWARDS ZERO EMISSION COLLECTION

The Veritas Environmental Services Venice Division takes care of waste collection in the historic center of Venice and in the Giudecca islands (except for Sacca Fisola and the former Junghans area), Burano and Murano.

To ensure a service with minimal environmental impact, Veritas has renewed three quarters of its fleet of harvesting boats with Stage V motorized hull-compactors. But that’s not all. The Laguna multi-utility has also commissioned two hybrid boats and one fully electric one to develop zero-impact waste collection.

A first hybrid was built by the Venetian Advanced Marine Composites, while the second model (in the photo, in the BMS setting phase) was commissioned from Cantieri Morri of Bellaria (RN).

The two hybrid boats are identical to the traditional ones in shape and size. We are therefore talking about hulls over eleven meters long, about two and forty meters wide, but powered by two electric propulsion systems and powered by an innovative lithium-ion battery solution developed by the Italian company Archimede Energia. The latter, part of the HB4 holding, is the first manufacturer of lithium batteries with integrated BMS in Italy to have obtained the Naval Type Approval certification (Bureau Veritas) for electric navigation. The certification body has approved for navigation both the Archimede Energia lithium-ion battery system as a product and as an integral part of the hybrid boats in service at the Veritas Venice Environmental Services Division.

This national record by Archimede Energia, the expertise of Cantieri Morri of Bellaria and the determination of Veritas then allowed us to take a further step towards zero emission collection and also develop a fully electric boat. This will be among the 160 protagonists of the Venice Boat Show 2021, on stage from 29 May to 6 June at the Arsenale.
